The Invisible Enemy: Oil Transition

Every time a reactive resin bowling ball travels down the lane, it strips oil from the heads and pushes a portion of it down to the backend. This double action creates oil breakdown (front lane friction) and oil carrydown (backend slickness).

Bowlers who wait for a strike to become a split before moving are reacting too late. Proactive bowlers recognize subtle changes in pin action and ball motion before the score drops.

Diagnosing Breakdown vs. Carrydown

• Oil Breakdown Signals: The ball hooks early in the midlane, loses energy, and leaves flat 10-pins or 4-pins. Solution: Move feet inside toward the oil pattern center (e.g., 2 boards left with feet, 1 board left with target) to find fresh head oil.
• Carrydown Signals: The ball skids past the breakpoint and fails to turn the corner, leaving weak 10-pins or 2-pin combinations. Solution: Use a ball with more surface texture (e.g., 2000 Abralon) or move target right into the friction early.
